I was disappointed in August. It seemed devoid of plot and I left the theatre feeling absolutely neutral about the characters and their lives.

What was it about????

I totally disagree! August is a tight play. These characters are so totally French too! You can see the culture through their language - it's like watching my family on stage. I thought this was so funny. And then, at the end - it wasn't - like so many family gatherings. Superb!

I have had so many family visits like this. I really related to this family, the tension. I enjoyed it, but I left the theatre and spent the next twenty minutes with my friends trying to map out who was related to who exactly.

We loved it. Reminded us of our own family dynamics (dysfunctional as they generally are). Coming from Quebec and being bilingual, I was particularly engaged by the "French" feel of the play: the language, the characters, the gestures...

Oh geez, this play was boring/hard to follow/confusing/dragging on and on and on!. I actually didn't understand the last 25 minutes. It didn't make any sense! And what was with the snake?
