Alberta Theatre Projects Wins 7 Betty Mitchell Awards!
The Drowning Girls by Daniela Vlaskalic, Beth Graham and Charlie Tomlinson swept its nominations at last night’s ceremony, taking home the four Bettys the play was nominated for (Outstanding Lighting Design, Outstanding New Play, Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production of a Play). In an emotional acceptance speech on behalf of her co-writers, Beth Graham thanked Alberta Theatre Projects for their continued dedication to producing new works and the Calgary theatre community for their support of the show.
Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire, August, An Afternoon in the Country by Jean-Marc Dalpé, translated by Maureen Labonté and Half Life by John Mighton took home one Betty each in performance categories, with Curt McKinstry (Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama), Kate Newby (Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role) and Grant Reddick (Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role) winning, respectively.
